The majority of the rural families depend on farming, but the rain season only lasts for  three months. This leaves farmers with nine dry months which makes it difficult to grow crops. Rural families can not afford to set up comprehensive irrigation schemes such as drip irrigation. This method  is the only way to grow crops during the dry season. Drip  irrigation conserves the scarce water resources available and ensures farmers get some water to get by the dry season.
